We are writing to inform you about our Moon Area Elementary Redistricting Plan beginning at the start of the 2025-2026 school year. This plan was developed to balance enrollment across our elementary schools and ensure the best possible learning environment for all students. While this transition is still months away, we want to ensure families have ample time to prepare and receive all necessary information.
The Moon High School Key Club members are working hard this month to make lap blankets and valentines for all 88 residents of the Cedar Hill Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. Fantastic job giving back to the community!
With the potential for an ice storm tonight, we want to ensure that all families are prepared in case we need to transition to remote learning tomorrow.

An education and support virtual series that provides students, parents, families, staff, etc. the opportunity to learn and gain information from presenters from local organizations, agencies and businesses is available to MASD families and staff members.
A monthly virtual presentation will be available.
The Moon High School Key Club volunteered on Saturday at Global Links. The students sorted donated medical supplies that will be sent to countries in need. The volunteers enjoyed their day and hope to make this a monthly reoccurring volunteer opportunity.

We want to ensure our families understand how this year's weather-related school closures will impact our school calendar.
As we previously shared, Thursday, April 17th, originally designated as part of spring break, will now be a regular school day. This change is necessary to make up for the snow day we had on Monday, January 6th.
The district designated Wednesday, January 22, 2025 as an Act 80 Day. This means students will not have to make up the day.
The Moon High School Invention Lab students visited Covestro on January 13 to deliver their final presentation.
Tre Tipton, former Pitt football player and current mental health advocate, recently visited Moon Area High School for a school-wide ROAR assembly. Tre shared his powerful story with our high school students and encouraged them to persevere through the hard times and lift each other up.

Moon Area High School junior Abigail Ney has been selected to participate in the 2025 All-Eastern Orchestra! This prestigious ensemble will convene in Hartford, Connecticut at the end of April, bringing together some of the most talented young musicians from across the Eastern United States.
The Moon Angel Tree Program was able to support 191 of our students from all our buildings in all grade levels this year!
The wish lists were wide and varied, but the shoppers managed to procure everything from necessities like shoes, coats, clothes, socks, and toiletries; to wants of dolls, bikes, scooters, roller skates, sports jerseys, Lego sets, headphones, keyboards, easy bake ovens and even a guitar.
Moon Area High School Key Club held a gift drive to provide a gift to each of the 61 students who attend the Mooncrest After-School Program. Members of the Key Club also volunteer there after school a few days per week to help the younger students with their homework.

Mrs. Ludwig's Advanced Child Development class and Mrs. Mullen’s Mastery of Cooking classes recently teamed up with our preschool students to make holiday cookies!
We celebrated the sounds of the season at our MAHS Winter Choral Concert in December.

The Moon Area School District and School Board are proud to recognize the outstanding achievements of our student athletes and teams this fall season. Their hard work, dedication, and excellence have brought great pride to our district and community. The MAHS Boys Varsity Soccer Team as well as MAHS Cross Country Runners Tyler Giunipero and Alyson Stepp were recognized at the School Board meeting on December 3.
It is with great pleasure that I present to you our 2024 annual report. As we reflect on another successful year, I am proud of the significant strides we have made in strengthening the academic programs that are at the core of our school district's mission.
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is an evidence-based framework designed to enhance the overall school climate by promoting positive behaviors and preventing unwanted behaviors. At its core, PBIS focuses on teaching and reinforcing positive behaviors rather than solely reacting to negative behaviors.
We are excited to announce that the Moon Angel Tree Program is returning this holiday season! Last year, we were overwhelmed by the incredible generosity of our Moon Area families, whose contributions helped fulfill the wishes, needs, and dreams of 129 Moon Area students, bringing joy to many families during the holiday season.
Moon Area High School students recently participated in Accounting Career Day, hosted by Herbein Accounting Firm on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at Duquesne University.
Students enrolled in Accounting 1 and College in High School Accounting had the opportunity to engage in a hands-on financial statement analysis competition alongside approximately 200 students from 11 schools across the region.
It may still be relatively warm outside, but the possibility of winter weather is right around the corner. As we prepare for the possibility of weather-related delays and closings, we want to make sure families are as prepared as possible.
The High School and Middle School Club Hope was invited to present at The Highmark Caring Place Summit in October. Members of Club Hope shared the activities that they do in honor of our loved ones and how we support grieving students in our schools.

Moon Area High School received 2024 AP Honor Roll Silver Recognition!
The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering wide-reaching results for their students. The AP School Honor Roll offers schools recognition across four levels of distinction: Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Platinum.
Fourteen Moon Area High School students from Mr. Trapizona and Mr. D’Eramo’ s 12th grade AP US Government and Politics classes participated in the “Senator for a Day” seminar, hosted by PA State Senator, Devlin Robinson’s on Thursday, October 18th at Robert Morris University UPMC Events Center.
Moon Area High School students recently participated in the US Air Force's All Star Day.
All Star Day is an opportunity for students to "experience hands-on learning, participate in leadership challenges, learn about different career fields, tour Air Force aircraft (C-17 and KC-135), see an F-16 fly by, and learn some leadership lessons from some community leaders."
The 2nd annual Mary and Mike's Miles 5k fun run and walk was on Saturday, November 2, 2024. The event raised $10,000 for senior scholarships! The proceeds will go to seniors that are going into vocational training and higher education.
Students from Moon High School recently participated in the annual "Build on Skilled" Trades Career Fair at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center.
The event offered hands-on experiences and insights into skilled trades careers, inspiring students to explore opportunities in various trades industries. A highlight of the day was meeting the Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, adding a memorable moment to an already exciting event.

Mrs. Ludwig's Advanced Child Development classes hosted their annual Preschool Halloween Party! The high school students guided the preschoolers around the building for some fun trick-or-treating, creating sweet memories for everyone!
Moon Area High School is proud to present James and the Giant Peach, November 7-10! With more than 120 students involved in this production, the students of the Moon Area High School Performing Arts Department are bringing the beloved Roald Dahl book to life on stage with music by the composers of The Greatest Showman!
Moon Area School District is one of two winners of the 28th Annual WPIAL Sportsmanship Award, which is presented by the Wilson Group.
This is Moon’s third time collecting the WPIAL Sportsmanship Award, pulling our district into a tie for eighth all-time with Bethel Park, Indiana, Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Seneca Valley, Southmoreland, The Summit Academy, and Uniontown. The Tigers previously won in 2013-14 and 2020-21.
Twenty-four MAHS students recently enjoyed a beautiful fall day attending "Who Works the Rivers," a career exploration program provided by River Works Discoveries. This event allowed students to network with local professionals and participate in hands-on activities while exploring the diverse career opportunities available on Pittsburgh's three rivers.
On October 19, the Moon Area High School Marching Band traveled to Newark, Delaware to compete in the 2024 Bands of America (BOA) Mid-Atlantic Regional Championship, presented by Yamaha. Bands of America Championships are the premier marching band events in the nation.
Moon Area High School students attended Accounting Career Day, which is organized by the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA). The event was held at Robert Morris University on October 17.

At 4:02 p.m., Moon Area School District officials and Moon Township Police both received a Safe2Say notification informing us of a safety incident on a Moon Area Middle School afternoon bus.

We understand that many of you have additional questions or concerns following the message we shared yesterday regarding the student who was found in possession of a weapon. While we are unable to provide every detail due to the ongoing investigation involving a minor, we want to keep you informed with the information we are able to share at this time.
Earlier today, a weapon was found in the possession of a high school student. We want to assure you that the safety of all students and staff was never compromised, and there was no immediate threat to anyone on campus. The police were immediately notified, and the situation was handled swiftly. At no point was there any intent to harm students or staff.
We understand that with recent tragic events, such as the school shooting in Atlanta and other incidents across the country, concerns about school safety are elevated. The safety of our students and staff is a top priority, and we want to reassure you that the Moon Area School District is deeply committed to maintaining a safe and secure environment.

In partnership with the Moon Area School District, the Moon Township Police Department invites the adult public of school-aged children to a Safety Night on September 26 at 6 pm at the Moon Area High School Auditorium.
Congressman Chris Deluzio (PA-17) joined Moon Area School District officials and clean air advocates to celebrate the $10.57 million federal investment to provide thirty-eight fully electric buses to school districts around Pennsylvania’s 17th Congressional District. Specifically, the leaders spotlighted the $1.2 million for Moon Area School District’s purchase of six new vehicles.
Moon Area High School's Unified Bocce team was invited to participate in the grand opening ceremony of the new Moon Twp Sheetz in August.

MAHS Class of 2024 Graduate Yearbook Pickup Day is Tuesday 8/20! MAHS Class of 2024 graduates only may pick up their yearbooks at the Student Entrance on Tuesday, August 20th between 9-11AM or 2-4PM. Friends and family may pick up books for other graduates, and all books will be signed for to keep accurate records of delivery.
I hope you are all having a wonderful summer. While you still have a few weeks to enjoy your summer break, we’re busy preparing for the upcoming school year. I have included some information below that I hope you will find helpful.
Moon Area School District held Town Hall meetings at Hyde Elementary on March 4, 2024 and Brooks Elementary on March 6, 2024 to engage in an open discussion regarding our elementary school structure and the support systems we provide for our students. I would like to thank everybody who attended the meeting.
